January 14, 2012 - Dress Up Your Pet Day

It's a day to enjoy anthropomorphism – which is treating animals as people, or thinking of animals as if they have human traits or culture. Dog don't really want to dress for success, and long-haired cats aren't really interested in following the latest hairstyle trends...but some pets don't mind being dressed up, photographed, and ooohed and aahed over, and some pet owners LOVE it!

And, according to Pet Style, today's the day for your puppy and kitty to strut their stuff!

(Please don't torture your pet today. If he or she hates dressing up, honor your pet's wishes.)

Many children's books are written about anthropomorphic animals—animals who dress up in clothes, talk, and drive cars or go to school or skateboard or do a million other things that humans do. Can you think of some examples of anthropomorphic books?

Here are some famous ones:

Beatrix Potter books, such as Peter Rabbit
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Alice in Wonderland
The Jungle Book
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Berenstain Bears books
Winnie the Pooh books

(and many, many more)
